| First Step To _______ is a philosophy of helping the homeless. They fill in the blank with the destination of their choosing. Some may choose a destination for the day such as just wandering a large store without being shunned or told to leave. Our goal is that some may choose a destination to change their life such as interviewing for a job, seeking treatment, or returning to family. But we respect that the destination is always their choice. |
| First Step To _______ is centered on an observation about how we ignore those around us who fit in while we notice those who are dirty and different. The homeless can't just walk in and get a job because they carry a sign of their homelessness in their being unclean. Being clean is to be invisible rather than ignored. Being clean is to be clothed in dignity. |
| This is more than just a philosophy as all of this is centered on a physical item that will need to be designed, built, and operated. That will require crowd sourcing to make a reality. When that time comes this site will be changed to describe what needs to be built and will provide places for you to add your input or resources. We can't cure homelessness but we can provide what is needed for each homeless person we meet to take that First Step To _________. |
